TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Patrick Kluivert officially took over as the head coach of the Indonesian national team on January 9, 2025, replacing Shin Tae-yong. Since then, the Dutch coach has led the Garuda in eight official matches, with inconsistent results.
Out of the eight matches, which include four third round qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, two friendly matches, and two fourth round matches, Kluivert has recorded three wins, one draw, and four losses. Indonesia's winning percentage under his leadership is only 37.5 percent.
The three wins came against Bahrain (1-0), China (1-0), and Taiwan (6-0), while the draw occurred against Lebanon (0-0). The four losses came against strong opponents: Australia (1-5), Japan (0-6), Saudi Arabia (2-3), and Iraq (0-1). Overall, Indonesia scored 11 goals and conceded 15.
Tactically, Kluivert has not settled on a fixed formation. In the eight matches, he used a four-defender system four times and a three-defender system four times. Player rotations have been quite high, with a total of 32 players tried during his tenure.
Midfielder Thom Haye is the only player who has appeared in all eight matches. Below him, Jay Idzes and Kevin Diks have both made seven appearances. Five players appeared six times: Joey Pelupessy, Ole Romeny, Ricky Kambuaya, Eliano Reijnders, and Ramadhan Sananta.
